State Historical Society to host 125th anniversary celebration

The State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO) is set to celebrate its 125th anniversary on May 9.

The public program will be from noon-1 p.m. at the Center for Missouri Studies (605 Elm St., Columbia). It is free to the public.

The State Historical Society was established in May, 1898. The Missouri Press Association was the original founder of the group.

Bob Priddy, Missouri author and journalist, will have a conversation with Gary Kremer, SHSMO executive director, at the program. They will discuss the legacy and the future of the society.

This event is part of the History on Elm monthly series at the Center for Missouri Studies. This series "celebrates the 125th anniversary of the founding of the State Historical Society in 1898 by exploring a variety of topics on the second Tuesday at noon, each month."

The topics discussed in the series include Missouri art and collection at SHSMO.

All attendees at the event will also receive a free book about Missouri history.

Cake and punch will be served.
