William Woods University has announced its commencement speaker for April's graduation ceremonies.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. (retired) Byron S. Bagby, a Fulton native, will address approximately 250 graduates (and their families and friends) during the ceremonies April 29.

Undergraduate commencement begins 10 a.m., while graduate commencement begins at 2 p.m., both inside Cutlip Auditorium.

Bagby graduated from Westminster with a bachelor's degree in economics. He also received a master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina.

He served as commandant of the Joint Forces Staff College and later served in the Office of Military Cooperation in Cairo and with the U.S. Army in Europe.

He taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

He has completed several combat deployments and worked at the Pentagon.

"His career has been the epitome of service, leadership, professionalism, integrity and honor, and we are thrilled to have him deliver his powerful message at William Woods," said Jeremy Moreland, president of William Woods, in a release.
