North Callaway students place at FFA Convention

Several students from North Callaway High School competed and placed at the 95th annual Missouri FFA Convention.

The North Callaway FFA Chapter placed third in the agricultural technology and mechanical systems career development event, according to an FFA release.

43 teams participated in the competition.

The members of North Callaway's team include Kyle Scott, Caleb Rohrbach, Carson Safranski and Brock Herdzina.

Scott placed fourth, Rohrbach placed 16th, Sanfranski placed 26th and Herzina placed 47th. 166 students competed in the event.

In this event, teams "consist of four students that solve a multi-system agricultural problem scenario," a release states. Individually, students complete a written exam that covers several different agricultural technology and mechanical topics.

The topics include compact equipment, electricity, environment and natural resources, machine and equipment and structures.

The North Callaway FFA Chapter placed third in the floriculture career development event. 60 teams competed in this event.

The members of North Callaway's team include Sophie Geppert, Adrienne Bryant, Casper Safranski and Addison Bedsworth.

Geppert placed fifth, Bryant placed 14th, Safranski placed 53rd and Bedsworth placed 86th. 130 students competed in the event.

In this event, students "were asked to identify plants and were faced with decisions involving day-to-day problems that occur in the floral industry." The event also tests plant care and diagnosis, floral arranging and sales, and product knowledge, a release states.

The North Callaway FFA Chapter placed second in the nursery/landscaping career development event. 50 teams competed in this event.

The members of North Callaway's team include Lauren Riecke, Tyler Huddleston, Isiah Craighead and Sam Pezold.

Riecke placed third, Huddleston placed fifth, Craighead placed 11th and Pezold placed 40th. 193 students participated in the event.

Scholarships are awarded to the top four students in this event. The scholarships are provided by STIHL Outdoor Power Equipment.

In this event, students "are scored on their knowledge of production, marketing, utilization, and culture of landscape plants."

The North Callaway FFA advisors are Katie Robnett and Jarod Womack.

The Missouri FFA has 26,716 members across 356 chapters. The national organization has over 850,000 members representing 8,995 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
