The Callaway Youth Expo (CYE) recently announced that its plans to build new facilities at the CYE Fairgrounds in Auxvasse are becoming a reality.

After months of fundraising, CYE has raised enough donations to officially declare its plans to build a new building to house the concession stand, restrooms and storage area for the grounds.

Until now, annual fundraising was focused on maintaining the current building. Now, however, the CYE said the building is beyond repairs and a new facility is necessary.

According to a CYE news release, fundraising for the project began in November 2022. The total fundraising goal is $300,000. As of Feb. 23, the CYE had received $97,000.

CYE Co-Treasurer Jenifer DeLashmutt said they've now reached around $130,000.

The goal is to reach $150,000 by April 15, according to previous reporting, so construction can start in the fall and the new building can be ready for community events in 2024.

The CYE hosts the county fair, school and community events, horse shows, 4-H and FFA events and the Auxvasse Rodeo.

Bennie Young, a local business owner and a founding supporter of the CYE spoke about the importance of fundraising for the organization.

"Today's young people are our future leaders. It is very important to invest our time and money in our youth today in order to raise responsible leaders for the future of our great country," Young said in the release.

DeLashmutt said Young made a $5,000 donation to the project. She said part of the reason the CYE put out the announcement was to recognize Young for his long-time support.

The release said CYE is a nonprofit organization and donations are tax-deductible. Those interested in donating can reach out to the CYE building committee members:
