Fulton girls basketball falls to top-seeded Centralia in Harrisburg Tournament

No. 8 seed Fulton girls basketball lost 58-19 against No. 1 seed Centralia in the opening round of the Harrisburg Tournament Monday evening in Harrisburg. As a result, the Hornets drop to 4-11, while the Panthers improve to 14-3.

Centralia outscored Fulton in all four quarters, and the Hornets recorded less than 10 points in all but one quarter -- 16-5, 16-11, 14-1 and 12-2.

The Panthers had three players score at least 10 points: Raegan Anderson had 15, Braylin Brunkhorst 12 and Jozelynn Bostick 10.

Meanwhile, Fulton didn't have a player reach double digits in points. Jayna Hedgpath accounted for nearly half the team's scoring, tallying nine.

"Tough night," Fulton coach Matt Wilbers said. "Centralia is a very good team. Well coached and very disciplined on both ends of the floor. Plays with great intensity.

"First half, I thought we did a good job scoring the basketball. We got aggressive and got to the free-throw line and did a good job making them. Made some adjustments to our offense due to foul trouble, and the girls did a good job taking it in stride but didn't make shots.

"Very proud of how the girls continued to play hard regardless of the score. Gets difficult to find the words that take the sing out of another loss, but we still have plenty of season left and opportunities to improve and find ways to win the game we have left."

Up next, No. 8 seed Fulton will play No. 4 seed Linn (10-7) in the consolation bracket of the Linn Tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Harrisburg Middle School in Harrisburg.
